Cannons roared, smoke and dust filled the air as the the cries of men and horses rang out. Paris:14 July 1789. Captain Pennington covered her ears as cannons fired again, ripping away several of her men and one of their cannons.
"Stand fast!" She ordered as some of her soldiers looked ready to bolt. "I don't care if it's for Liberty, the love of your country, the love or your family or just the desire to have a full belly at night, hold fast!" A few men turned around but cannon balls soared toward them from the Bastille and knocked out another of their cannons. Pennington turned, pinpointing the origin of the cannon fire, and the most prominent tower. "Aim for the tower!" She raised her sword to give the command to fire, but had to drop it again to block a sword blow from a royal officer. She couldn't get him off of her, he was skilled. Pennington gathered herself into a practiced fencing stance, their swords circled for the briefest moment. The officer struck, she managed to block it and side stepped it, using his own weight against him as she brought her leg around to kick his knee from beneath him in a dirty blow. "Fire!" Cannons roared around them, but the tower stood firm. He swung at her again but she left over his sword and brought it to block again. He stood, this time she managed to hook her sword on his and flung it over his shoulder before running her sword through his back. She wiped her sword on her handkerchief. "Aim higher, the bricks will be weaker." She waited for her men to adjust the angle of their cannons. "FIRE!" The castle began to crumble, but a wave of gun fire and cavalry rushed at Pennington and her men, suddenly, the sound of an incoming message rang across the battle field. U.S.S. Aotearoa Stardate 2369.12.31.2 "Computer freeze program."

Yoho Capts! It's me Daniel! Come to the bridge right away I have a surprise for youz~! Daniel out.
The over excited voice of the Lieutenant Commander faded away as the comn message faded in Captain Alva Pennington custom made Holosuite. Rumor has it that a certain Captain owed her for losing a bet in a baseball game. Some unlucky bartender ended up having to pay the price for shipping and installing this baby. What other Starfleet Captain do you know that has his or her own private Holosuite in there own very spacious quarters no less!

Pennington wiped her brow with the sleeve of the chevalier uniform she'd been wearing as she analyzed the tactical situation she was in in the back of her mind. She could have sworn an opening in the enemy's defenses appeared the instant she paused. "Is it really that important?" She mumbled to herself. With Lieutenant Commander Steinbock it was impossible to discern if he was announcing a full blown Klingon attack or a surprise birthday party. "I'm on my way." She sighed heavily. "Computer, save and end program." Revolutionary France vanished from around her, revealing her Captain's quarters. She removed her holosuit helmet and glanced around the room quickly. Model ships, Rococo paintings, Asian artifacts from earth and sculptures from planets ranging from Vulcan to Orion lined the walls, and books lay on every surface.
Moments later the door of the bridge slid open, revealing Captain Pennington in full uniform. She crossed to the Lieutenant Commander, only to half smile at his enthusiastic face. "So what was so important that you had to put the future of France on hold, my friend?"

"Captain!" The energetic Lt. Commander. said as he quite suddenly gave Captain Alva Pennington a unprofessional hug. Some of the working staff stopped to give the pair a look. "You're here sooner than I planned...But just wait here! and I'll be back here in a jiffy!"
The Lt. words flew out as he glided out of the room in what might have been record breaking speed. The crew might have mixed feelings about Lt. Commander Steinbock ways of acting. But his speed at working in tough fixes and solving the problems was top notch. and for that the crew did have to give him credit in.
No soon did the cake obsessed man leave the bridge of the Aotearoa. That a officer shouted out a warning of a incoming fleet. The view screen was soon flashed with the image of a not to happy (and ugly) leader of the fleet. The Commander of that ship belonged to the alien race known to even get a Klingon's heart worried.

Abigail stood cringing behind her weapons station awaiting the harsh sound of the Gorn commander's voice to demand something ridiculous and threaten the ship with horrific consequences if their terms were not met.
"What the hell do they want" Abby whispered to Alva under her breath, "This should be an interesting encounter"

Pennington gathered a deep breath as the bridge seemed to stand still in a frozen eternity. "Go to red alert, shields up." She tapped her comm badge. Lieutenant Commander Steinbock, back on the bridge NOW. She looked back up at the viewer.
"Open hailing frequencies."
A hissing gurgle filled their ears as the Gorn commander appeared to speak.
"Run them through the ship's universal translator." She watched as Lieutenant Commander Steinbock replaced the Ensign who had been filling his post.
"Captain what's up? I still need some time to prepare you-Woahhhhhh!!" The Lt. backed up in a bust of energetic surprise. "Big ugly lizard much!?" *He shuck his head side to side. "Don't scare me with a hologram like that Capts! I nearly lost my cool."
Pennington rubbed a temple with her hand. "It's not a hologram Steinbock, run the universal translator now or I'm diminishing your cake rations."
The color seemed to drain away at the man's face when he heard those of so scary words. "Aye!" His voiced pitched a bit from his own deep dark fears with a few clicks here there it was set. "You're all set Capts." Please don't take away me cupcakes!
"I am Captain Alva Pennington of the U.S.S. Aotearoa. State your business with the Federation."
The reptilian leaned forward, examining her with one unblinking eye. "Aren't you a little small to be a leader of your people?"
"Size, shape, species, it has no meaning to the Federation. We are all equal."
The Gorn made a strange hissing sound accompanied by a jerking movement, his first officer did the same. Pennington assumed it was their own form of laughter.
"State your business with the Federation." Pennington repeated firmly.
"There acting very rude." The cakeman mumbled in a annoyed like manner as he glared at the space reptilian race know as the Gorn. "They might be warp capable but it seems there sense of humor still needs some time to evolve."
Pennington's lips tightened, she agreed with Steinbock but pretended not to hear his comment. The Gorn finally stopped cackling and turned to her again.
"One of our best warriors was defeated by one of your Federation Warriors..." Pennington's eyebrows furrowed, what was he talking about? "Your...Captain Kirk. He defeated our best Warrior Captain, and let him live."
"Then what is your quarrel with him?"
"He was dishonored! We have spent...all these years...despising the Federation for what they have done. We order you to send your Captain to the planet, where they will fight our best Warrior Captain so that we may settle the score."
"I am the Captain of this vessel."
"Then YOU will fight him!"
Pennington steeled herself. "What are your terms?"
"If you win, we will let you be, and it will be as if we never met."
"And if I should lose?"
"You will hand over your ship and crew to the Gorn!"
Pennington held up her hand, signaling to cut the sound from the hail, and turned to her bridge crew.

"Captain, be careful" Abby said, "How do we know that if you were to win they'd keep their word? After all, they did get stroppy after Kirk handed the last warrior his butt."
Abby ran a scan of the Gorn vessel at the behest of her Captain.
"It's a medium attack class vessel capable of harming our ship immensely, but when it boils down to it, they will come off second best...I guarantee you that." She proudly said. "However we look at it though, it's best not to piss these guys off which to be honest will happen if you beat their warrior; either way we look at this, it's not going to end well."
The Captain looked to the rest of the crew on the bridge for their opinions and were met with mixed reactions.

"ENOUGH!"
The Gorn commander yelled in a mighty roar.
"I have grown tired of you're stalling. "Captain"."
He pointed a mean looking claw at Alva.
"You will fight NOW!"
He made a small leering gesture to one of his scaly looking clans brothers.
"Quick raise the shields!"
But the low ranking officer's reaction came to late as there Pennington was beamed away from there very eyes.
"Now what should we do!?"
A frightened crewmen cried. All eyes turned to the next in the chain of command. Commander Abigail Rush.
As the drama unfolds a certain Lt. vents out his frustration with the current events that have just taken place on the bridge.
"Capt's you get back here and get you're hair cut! You know how hard it is to set up an apportionment with Zorn!"
Daniel shook his fist in a cakey tantrum.

The bridge vanished before Pennington's eyes and the moment the planet began to form around her the air was knocked from her lungs. She struggled up from the dry ground, but two Gorn guards grabbed hold of her arms and the Captain she had been talking to only moments before stood before her, at least seven feet tall, he was a monster. He leered down at her with his unblinking eyes. She twisted in their arms, one of the guards ripped the comm badge from her chest, the Captain pulled what must have been his own from his uniform and handed it to the guard who had Pennington's. With a gesture from the Captain the guards released her and were beamed back to their own ship. Alva backed away as the Gorn Captain approached her.
"This is uncivilized. I don't see the need to engage in such a childish competition. How is kidnapping someone half your size and beating them to a pulp in any way honorable?" The Gorn hissed in reply, and she realized very quickly that negotiating with someone who couldn't (and wouldn't) understand her would get her no where. ~~~~~~~~~~~
"Can they even do that?!" Warner stood from his chair, waving his hand where Pennington had just vanished as if she was just invisible somehow. Nao'po's eyebrow raised in protest to his illogical actions but she said nothing.
D'eon hit the arm rest of her chair in frustration.
